My mom came down over the weekend and we all took a road trip up to the mountains in northern Arizona and stayed two nights at a place called Bison Ranch. Basically, it is a little boys heaven. There was quite enough rocks, sticks and dirt to keep Thomas happy for years. And there was even an easter egg hunt too. It was a nice little getaway. Thanks mom! We had a great time.
Ryan discovered that two-year olds are not the best fishing partners, although entertaining. (It seems they like to continually talk and throw rocks into the water.)

Mesa temple pageant
In the spirit of trying to teach Thomas that Easter is more than finding hidden eggs filled with treats, we drove down to the Mesa temple for the annual Easter pageant. Even though it was a struggle to keep the boys (mostly Nathan) entertained it was such a special experience. (Thomas must have some amazing nursery teachers, because he knew that the happy feeling he had inside was the Holy Ghost.)
Before the pageant started, the cast walked around in costume doing missionary work and talking to the audience. Thomas was captivated by this and apparently developed a fear of shepards, because he commented to Ryan, "Dad, you always protect me from shepards." Random...I would have thought he would be more afraid of the soldiers.

Easter Egg Hunt
Ryan's school has a fun kids group called "Thunderkids" that we have been involved in. Thomas has made many fun friends (and girl admirers) and looks forward to the weekly activities. This was the Easter egg hunt, where Thomas proved that indeed he can fit 20 jelly beans in his mouth at one time and Nathan attempted to do the same with all the rocks that he kept picking up from off the ground!

Batter up!
All the Major League baseball teams are currently in Arizona for spring training. Last Saturday we went to Padres vs Oakland. (Or at least I think that is who was playing. To be honest I was watching the kids more than the game). We went with a group of families from Thunderkids and had a great time. There was a small baseball diamond set up and older kids were playing their own little game. Ryan took Thomas to watch and it didn't take Thomas long before he wanted a turn. He stepped up to the plate and without any prompting from Ryan, he took the bat and smashed one off the baseball tee and than began running around the bases. The other kids were totally taken back that such a little guy could do that. Needless to say, it was a very proud moment for Ryan!
We didn't get a picture of that..but here are a few others from the game.
